HISTORY
In 1858, 18 years after Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society was established in Barbados, and nine years after beginning their trek across the Caribbean with the opening of a branch in St Vincent, the company expanded to Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada, thus expanding their footprint, a development which would occur with varying degrees of frequency over the next 150 years.
By 2002 when the company established itself as Sagicor, it had increased its profile across the Caribbean, dominating the life insurance arena in all the English-speaking markets and across the Dutch Caribbean and Haiti also. In 2014, Sagicor marked another milestone which would impact its Eastern Caribbean markets with the incorporation of Sagicor Life Eastern Caribbean Inc, which meant that all assets in the Eastern Caribbean would be owned in the Eastern Caribbean.
Donald Austin
Donald Austin, the Chief Executive Officer for Sagicor Life Eastern Caribbean Inc which is known affectionately within the company as SLECI says, “The establishment of the Eastern Caribbean business as a separate entity demonstrates the commitment of Sagicor to the countries and the people. We’re cementing our commitment, and this emphasizes the importance of the work we are doing. And for Grenada in particular, we are here to ensure that we provide the best opportunities for insurance to you while we strengthen our relationships within the community. Over the years we have supported activities like the Rotaract Spelling Bee Competition which provides an important avenue for the development of our young people. Over 2019 we are hoping to broaden our support in areas of health and sport.

Austin emphasizes that the company’s knowledge of the Grenadian market is unparalleled. With 15 Advisors and 18 Administrative team members, the team is led by Cherryl- Ann Boca-Bethel who is the Branch Manager and Berry James, the Sales Manager.
